Burning Man – Day 2
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008Woke up at burning man busting to go. There was a guy with a water truck hosing the dust out the dunnies (non Aussies who don’t know what a dunny is: google) so good timing by me.
We moved the van to make a nice right angle with Rio’s. Got coffee in center camp, I finished Fi’s bike box, then we gave everyone a hand setting up the Dilated Peoples Eye Spa.
IIt’s amazing in every literal sense of the word to walk around Burning Man. I’ve just seen more incredible costumes, crazy vehicles, and beautiful semi-naked people in 10 minutes than I’ve seen in Australia my whole life.
So both the bike boxes are done. All the mounting nuts came loose on the first test ride so now they have lock nuts as well as lock washers. The solar panels actually work and are charging the batteries. Tomorrow the el-wire.
Just before sunset we went on an art cruise across the playa. We stopped at an installation with lots of ballons and helped the artist setting up. Some of the boys were trying to chat him up
Then we went to the man himself and climbed up. He’s on a “skyscraper” this year. Then the sun had set and it was time for a serious costume change…
Tonight is our first night in the playa. A gang of about 10 of us headed out looking for fun, pretty lights and dancing. At some point Harry, Evan and I got on bus to dance and everyone else thought about getting on or not, the bus took off! So the three of us went off on our own adventure for the night. Unless you have special plan or walkie talkies, if you lose your gang on the playa you ain’t gonna find them again.
So we went bar hopping (harry was having a fine drinking night) and ended up dancing at Absolutely Subconscious – fantastic music while we were there.
Eventually we split up I went back to camp, Fi appeared as if by magic and Fi Hal Neal and I went Opulent Temple. Really f*#%*ing good music. About 4am u was getting tired so Fi and I headed back and found Ross had arrived and as asleep in the RV.
Corn chips and dip then bed. Phew.
